Salvador Dali is a Spanish surrealist painter with a number of amazing pieces of art under his belt. Although he was very talented and dabbled in a bit of everything, he is best known for his unique and striking double meaning optical illusion paintings. When looking at many of his paintings, one has the impression that they see a large face. However, upon further inspection of the smaller elements in the painting, it’s easy to see that the larger image is simply made up of cleverly placed foreground and background elements in the image.
Today’s illusion is just such a painting.
Apparition of Face and Fruit Dish on a Beach, is quite fitting. Looking at the painting, it’s quite easy to see the face. However, when you look closer, you can see that the face and fruit is nothing more than an illusion made up of other elements in the painting, which is actually a beach.
The forehead is actually the bowl of the dish, and the nose is formed by the stem of the dish. Rocks and other background elements form the hair and eyes of the face and fruit in the dish.
There’s also one more hidden element in the Apparition of Face and Fruit Dish on a Beach. Can you see it? I’ll give you a hint—tke a look at the large hill and bridge in the background.
