With all that offers like “Free Macbook” or free iPod, one thing is for sure, and not only for US visitors – you get daily free optical illusions on this site, wherever you live :) The newest one was on my hard disk for such a long time, that I forgot who created and submitted it. I apologize to that brave soul, who won’t get his name mentioned here. First time I saw it I thought it’s only interesting picture, but today I noticed that if you stare at the yellow circle in the center, outer rings will slowly start to rotate. After a while they seem to rotate so fast, you’ll think your mind will explode. This animation effect is achieved from those black & white stripes, you see in the background. They have strong effect in almost any illusion they appear in. If you notice anything else in the pic below, some other illusion, be sure to let us know! Thanks…

Cool image, but the printer raster disturbs the illusion somewhat. Would work better if some denoising filter were applied to it.

Nice illusion. I’ve seen a lot of these before. If I remember correctly, the reason for the “spinning effect” is caused by the minute adjustments our eyes make. These adjustments are always occuring, and are very small; that added to the high contrast of the black and white lines makes what is next to them appear to be spinning or shifting back and forth – depending on the shape and setup.

You are right. The dark circles seem to rotate in the same direction. But, if you blink, they then seem to go in the opposite direction.

Just something I noticed: The rings will “spin” clockwise if you are right-eye dominant and spin counter-clockwise if you are left-eye dominant.

I couldnt see the spins, but after staring at it long enough, I couldn’t read or see anything! My vision blurred, and, although it lasted only a few seconds, I DID think my brain would explode!
the blue rings spin when i look at it, its really crazy. it kinda hurts my eyes though, but still cool.

Oh my gosh. #1 had posted previously that they had the circles change in direction as they were rotating. Well, that’s the same thing for me.

woah, im getting dizzy, the dark blue and the green ring were spinning right while the blue was spinning left
I couldn’t get the circles to spin, but I saw little clown faces in red near the yellow spot.
I see the circles change direction every two seconds or so, even if I don’t blink! Cool illusion!
my eyes just blur out until i can’t see the yellow circle then when i refucus the circles are stationary again.

If you stare at it for a while an then at a wall the wall seems to distort and wobble. COOL!
Also if you stare at the yellow circle then stare at the paint on the wall it is jusy as interesting as staring at a circle

There are words and figures that appear between the yellow and green. If I’m the only one that keeps seeing thing things they are going to put me in a white coat or give me a really nice award.

idk if anyone else saw this but if you look st just the rings there is a light already going through it. so thats probably why you cant get the illusion if you print it…
