Coastal towns see all sorts of unusual things. They’re full of myths, legends, and lore, and tales of a ghost ship or two is not entirely uncommon. It’s a rare case, however, when you would actually get to see a ghost ship! But, today’s illusion gives you a glimpse at just that!
I’m not sure where this ghost ship photo was taken, but it’s one of the neatest illusions that I’ve seen in a while. Then again, I’m a sucker for big boats and ships, especially ones that look like they’re floating in mid air.
Of course, a floating ghost ship isn’t really possible. So, I guess the question of the day is can you figure out how this illusion was created? I’m guessing that the buildings on the right are located on a hill, inland from the waterfront. Heavy fog on certain days would obscure the water’s edge, making it difficult to see where the land ends and the water begins. Looking down the hill toward the water, with dense fog covering everything, it would look like a large ship was simply floating in the air.
My first guess was it is the top of same building, maybe a castle on a hill. But a quick Google Image search reveals: It’s the Sutro antenna Tower in San Francisco: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sutro_Tower
I recognized Sutro Tower immediately, but I see how it Might be mistaken for a tall ship.
