Find the International Space Station

You can open the image below and try to find the International Space Station, with the Space Shuttle Atlantis floating next to it! The photo was taken in france by amateur astronomer Thierry Legault. It may look like you are seeing computerized graphic, but actually it’s real photo of a sun, shot with some special lenses (filters) that gave clear silhouette of ISS. You can find the full size picture here.

On the news, Professor Fizzwizzle (Mac version) was voted game of the month by our loyal visitors! You can download it, (and even Order Full Version). Eventhough it’s game for Mac, some say it should work on PC as well. Can you check it? To cheer you up, I also added few more games to the site. You can find Cute Knight and Jig Art Quest in our PC Games section – girls will especially love them! As well, you can get funny Filp Words game in our Mac Games Section! Enjoy! ;)

  1. If you ask yourslef why is this an illusion, it’s because it looks so unreal and computer generated like. Notice it’s real photo done by telescope and with special filter (lense)! :)

    1. Not of the Earth, as stated it is a picture of the Sun. Think about it, how do you take a picture of Earth from Earth since I doubt an AMATEUR astronomer would be using satellites.

  2. I’m in the “that’s not an illusion, that’s just a photo” camp. *shrug* Not every day can be a winning illusion.

  3. It’s THE Sun. There aren’t multiple suns you know.
And since when was Earth yellow huh?

It looks cool but I don’t think this counts as an illusion.

    1. Really? I learned in school that really each planet had different Sun/Suns. So all of those Suns were erased or something??

  4. So….. I guess you think we have the only sun in the universe?????????? It is very possibly a sun of a different size or color since filters for the photography of terestrial objects greatly distort what we would normally see. I ask this though… If it is a sun how could the space station not be damaged? Answer? High telephoto also distorts the distance in a photograph. Yes it is our sun, because the international Space station has not traveled outside our solar system. C’mon don’t call people idiots, just use logic to prove your point!!!

  5. i was convinced this wasn’t true. the sun looks too smooth and deviod of colour variations and especially interesting is the 3d aspect of the sun.

there’s more of the french bloke’s work here
    http://www.astrosurf.com/legault/

and whilst it is higher detailed than most, it would appear that (from searching the web) these results could indeed be obtained using a Takahashi TOA-130 refracting telescope and a STL-11000M CCD Research Grade astronomical Camera through a Baader helioscope…

  6. The dots? If you look carefully… they seem witches… ;)

Great picture, I dont’ care if it is an illusion or it is not!!! Thak you for sharing it.

    1. First of all, one universe does not equal one sun. Each solar system has one star around which to revolve, a sun. Secondly, neither astronomy nor prefixes have anything to do with basic physics.

  7. WOW im exited its a big yellow blob.. woopty frigin doo this picture blows!! my dawg would be a more interestin ‘optical illusion’ then this

    ..::Nicky xOXo::..

  8. Really cool pic, theres a lot more special lense pics like this on nasa’s site. Just for the record, The universe has multiple “suns.” Euan is confusing Universe with Solar System, and there are even some Solar Systems with multiple suns such as Gliese 777A. And Universe is latin for Unun Versus, meaning roughly; “One to turn.” The universe contains about 3-5 x 10^22 stars, or suns. Keep up the good work Vurdlak, love the site!

  9. I think the dots are sun spots like the in the top right corner.
    also euan:
‘uni’ does mean one but one universe, not one star. and prefixes have nothing to do with physics

  10. The sun is only a star, “…” but WE call it THE SUN because it is the closest sun to our world, we could have called it the star and it would be much more accurate however. all in all, interesting picture, kinda a topic for discussion, huh?

  11. I saw this pic in Popular Mechanics, but with a blow up of the ‘spot’. Is actually an amazing pic of the space shuttle discovery disengaging from the ISS (International Space Station). Holla!

  12. Hahahahaha… it was just SO hard to spot the space station…

and also jenny, the sun is a lot bigger than that. its just that the space station is a hell of a lot closer than the sun

  13. The “Sun” ( “Sun” – English…Coming from “Sol” – Latin ) is the name we gave the star in our solar system ( Milky Way )…There are no other stars named “Sun” out there…Just like there are no other planets named “Earth”…Joseph almost had it right…

  14. First of all, it’s not the shuttle Atlantis, its Discovery. Second every solar system in the universe has at least one ‘sun’ also known as a ‘star’. Third Our ‘sun’ is named Sol, for those who didn’t know.

  15. I DON’T THINK THIS IS THE SUN NOR THE EARTH,

I THINK THIS IS JUST A PICTURE OF A YELLOW BALL WITH A DOT ON THE BOTTOM LEFT PART AND THE WHOLE THING HAS BEEN BLURRED IN A PHOTO SHOP. A BLACK BACKGROUND ON THE BACK

  16. If you click on the picture you’ll notice in a larger form the small dot is actually a 1. It looks like it’s been drawn on.

  17. Try this if you haven’t yet. After you click the picture the first time, try clicking it again. It should be 5 times larger.

  18. i found the space station and p.s to all you people out there who sead that its not the sun you are wacked because im like a nerd to stuff about space and trust me i know that is sooooooooo the sun du i got the highest mark in school for that so BURN!!!

  19. i saw it easily. though at first i thought it was a dot on my screen and i tried to rub it off and then it wouldnt come so i tried pressing harder. still it wouldnt go away and then i finally moved it and it disappeared.
