Inspired by our last month’s Appetising Love Optical Illusion Dean Pellerzi took a shot of an apple sitting on a table, and then mixed it so that it includes a profile of his beloved ones. I’m sure you’ll notice the illusion immediately, which btw doesn’t degrade the quality nor aesthetics of Dean’s submission. What I love most about it is how subtle it turned out to be. What’s your take on the below photo? Hope you enjoy it!
I recently saw your post of an apple illusion and it inspired me to photograph my children. Thanks for your cool site and the inspiration! – Dean
I like bum.
is the illusion only on the right side? one face i mean??
There are two faces, one on each side. The one on the left side is harder to see.
nope, both sides.
nope it’s on the left as well :)
r u kiddin’? Put your glasses on!
2 faces and a heart between them (like a recent previous one).
No, it’s on both sides but the right side seems clearer.
@mhj The one on the left is a little higher up
there is a profile on the left though not as distinct
There’s a face on both sides and the seed is shaped like a heart. Very cool!
one face
i mean two faces
I think it’s amazing. I’m surprised mhj can’t see the image on both sides. It’s definitely there. It’s really a cool idea.
Thats really cool! :)
OK. Maybe I need another beer or twelve but I just can’t see it. What is it that we are supposed to be looking for?
Dan..It is simply the outside edge of the apple core (on both sides). It creates a profile of two (children?) facing each other.
And the heart in the middle is a nice touch.
I’d love to see Steve Jobs and Bill Gates’ silhouette each side… and perhaps something else other than a heart in the middle ;)
At first I thought ????? , what the heck are they talking about I could see nothing but an apple core…. then I saw it…the silhouette edges on both sides the shape of little faces… extraordinary!!!!
Love this.
of course both sides
Keep looking, mhj; it took me a while, and when I did, I wasn’t sure that I was actually seeing it-but I was ! Make sure that you’re looking straight at the screen and not at an angle. And let us know when you see it. It’s smaller than the other one, and more rounded.
I would love to get something like this! I wonder if Dean would be willing to make one for me too?!
click on my name to get to my website.
Or take a look at another one I did on my flickr page!

I like the seed – seems no-one has noticed it; was the first thing I saw, even before the profiles.
I love this. TYhe silhouettes on both sides are delicately incorporated in the shot oif the apple core. Makes you wonder how someone could be so precise about the way they ate an apple. :-) Nice job. Thanks
I love this! I hope to be inspired to do something so unique and meaningful one day… I think something like this would make an incredible gift for any parent or grandparent. Especially those who seem to already have everything.
Thank you for sharing.
It’s not IN the apple, but rather the edges that make the images outside the apple.
Yes, Pamela, I think I would! When I did this, I printed it 16×20 and matted it in a 20×24 frame. A picture of food and of OUR boys hanging in the kitchen! Perfect! We love it!
Then I thought that it would be great for people to have this hanging in their house with their childrens’ profiles. It would be special for them too. What a great idea!
I’m not able to see this at all :(
Both sides are faces. The seed is a heart.
