Golgotha Skull Illusion

Matthew Coles is known contributor on Mighty Optical Illusions website. Previously he gave us permission to publish his Stillwater Reservoir Droste effect. I liked that picture so much, that I decided to use it permanently on our mac widget button in the sidebar. This time Matt contributed his newest artwork. It is called Golgotha, and it’s the name of the hill Jesus was crucified on. Golgotha Hill’s geographic feature resembled a skull. Another unpopular fact, is that hill had really bad smell. When people die, first thing their body does, is “opens” and let’s all the excrements out. Many people died crucified on that hill, so you can imagine the atmosphere. That’s also why demons in Dogma were called Golgotha Sh*t Demons. Continue reading this article for further story, and see Matt’s email inside.

Golgotha Hill’s location isn’t certain, but here’s an alternative site, in east Jerusalem near the Garden Tomb. You can see how it may looked like, and how skull motive could have looked.

Here is Matt’s email regarding his submission: “My name is Matthew Coles. I was the one that created the Droste effect illusion that you decided to use as sort of the widget icon. I’m quite flattered. Thank you for using it. It gives me something to show. Well I was bored at work again, and just started drawing my own rendition of one the coolest natural illusions in real life, GOLGOTHA. The location that Jesus Christ was crucified. Whether or not you are christian, it is still cool to know that he was in fact crucified at the hill Golgotha that had natural formations resembling a skull. Also golgotha translates to “skull” or “place of the skull”. I just wanted to thank you for using that picture I made, and just attach something else. Goodbye, Matthew Coles, Kaysville Ut, 84037″.
